Sydney Jimmo Named GNAC Rookie of the Year

NEW LONDON, N.H. – November 11, 2019 – Colby-Sawyer first-year Sydney Jimmo (Shelburne, Vt./CVU) has been named the 2019 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Year.

Jimmo also earned a not to the All-GNAC First Team. First-year Thea Alberti (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) was named to the All-GNAC Third Team. Senior Raina Ceryak (Naugatuk, Conn./Notre Dame) represented Colby-Sawyer on the GNAC All-Sportsmanship Team.

Jimmo led Colby-Sawyer with 26 points on 12 goals and two assists. The three-time Rookie of the Week and two-time Player of the Week, Jimmo scored four game-winning goals, which all came against conference opponents. She was tops in that category in GNAC games and second in all games. Jimmo ranked fifth overall with 12 goals and fourth in GNAC games with eight. She also ranked eighth in points in all games with 26 and seventh in GNAC contests with 17. Jimmo wasted no time to make an impact as she recorded five points on two goals and an assist to help the team defeat Rhode Island College, 5-3, in the season opener. The next day, she added a goal in the team’s 3-2 win over Fitchburg State to be named Bulldog Bash MVP.

Alberti was voted to the all-conference team as one of the top defenders in the league. She started in each of the team’s games and played all but 27 minutes of the season. She notched her first collegiate point with a game-winning goal against Fitchburg State in the second game of the year. Alberti added another goal later in the season, but was she did on the defensive end of the field was more impressive. She was a major factor in helping the Chargers record three shutouts and post the fifth best goals allowed number in the league.

Ceryak picked up a pair of assists in 2019 as one of the Chargers’ top defenders. She started all 19 games and logged 1710 of a possible 1750 minutes. Ceryak played a pivotal role in developing the future success of the program as one of the team captains.
