DUMMERSTON, Vt. — A Claremont, New Hampshire woman was scheduled to be arraigned yesterday in Windham Criminal Court following her arrest on Monday morning for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. This resulted in a vehicle collision that caused injury to two juveniles.

At 10:47 a.m. on Monday, Vermont State Police responded to a single vehicle crash on Middle Road in Dummerston. According to a report by State Trooper Matthew Stevens from the Westminster Barracks, Laura O’Brien, 41, was traveling south on Middle Road when her 2016 Kia Soul failed to negotiate a left hand curve in the road and travelled off the road, striking a tree head on.

Three juveniles were traveling with O’Brien at the time of the crash. Their names and information were not released by police.

Two of the juveniles suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries. The youths were transported to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and subsequently flown by Dartmouth-Hitchcock Advanced Response Team (DHART) to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for treatment.

A third juvenile passenger received minor injuries and was treated at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and released. O’Brien was uninjured.

Investigation into the crash revealed O’Brien was possibly under the influence of a prescribed drug. Following a screening, state police arrested O’Brien for DUI-Drugs. The report said that O’Brien would also be charged at her arraignment with cruelty to a child and serious bodily injury.
