PLYMOUTH, N.H. – November 26, 2019 – Colby-Sawyer senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) became the program’s 16th member of the 1000-point club, and second player this year, as the Chargers defeated Plymouth State 73-58.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-1. The Chargers will resume action on Dec. 4 at Salem State. Plymouth State falls to 3-3. The Panthers travel to New England College on Dec. 5.
Hamilton achieved the milestone with a free throw in the final minute. Earlier this month, senior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) became the program’s 15th player to reach 1000 career points.
Hamilton finished 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Junior Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield, N.H.) led all players with a career-high 22 points on 9-12 shooting. Sugars registered her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She moved into 12th on the all-time scoring list with 1053 points. Senior Kristen Donaghey (Franklin, Mass.) chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
Plymouth State received a team best 21 points from Isabella Earle on 10-17 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench. Alessia Salzillo contributed 10 points and four steals.
Each team shot the ball better than 40% in the first quarter as they jockeyed for the lead. With the score tied at 10-10, Colby-Sawyer used a quick 5-0 spurt with a layup from Sugars and a trey from Hamilton to take a 5-point lead. The teams traded buckets before Earle closed the frame with a layup in the final seconds to pull Plymouth within 17-14.
The Panthers began the second with a 4-2 run but Colby-Sawyer held the Panthers at 18 points for more than eight minutes as the Chargers’ lead ballooned to 11. The Chargers took a 31-20 lead into the halftime break. Wainwright was 6-7 for 14 points to lead all scorers in the half.
Colby-Sawyer shot 50% in the third to hold a double-digit lead throughout the quarter.
The Panthers outscored Colby-Sawyer 22-21 in the fourth, but the Chargers held a comfortable advantage for the final 10 minutes, with the largest lead being 19.
Colby-Sawyer made 21 free throws in the contest.
