Sugars, Hamilton. lead C-S to victory

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — The Colby-Sawyer women’s basketball outscored Salve Regina, 43-22, in the second half to secure a 79-56 victory in the consolation game of the 2019 Cave Classic hosted by Bridgewater State.

The Chargers improve to 4-1 and played at Plymouth State on Tuesday evening. Salve Regina falls to 0-5.

Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine) led all players with her fourth double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Sugars was 8-8 from the free throw line. Senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee) was 6-10 from the floor and 4-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 17 points, seven rebounds and nine assists. Hamilton moved into 10th in career threes with 120. Junior Joslin Wainwright (Plainfield) was third on the team with 16 points on 8-11 shooting to go with 10 rebounds.

The Seahawks received 14 points from Torie Scorpio. Mary Rorke and Gabby Sousa each tallied 13 points, while Morgan Shuey chipped in 10 points off the bench.

The Chargers held just a 36-34 lead at the half due in part to Salve Regina making 50 percent of its three-point attempts (6-12).

Colby-Sawyer turned up the offensive intensity in the second half and shot 48.5 percent from the field. The Chargers won the third quarter 25-10 and never looked back. Colby-Sawyer added to its advantage in the fourth by outscoring the Seahawks 18-12.

Colby-Sawyer won the rebounding battle, 47-26.

Both teams made their free throws. Colby-Sawyer was 12-13, while Salve Regina hit all eight of its attempts
