PLYMOUTH, N.H. — Colby-Sawyer senior Lexie Hamilton of Sunapee became the program’s 16th member of the 1000-point club, and second player this year, as the Chargers defeated Plymouth State 73-58.
Hamilton achieved the milestone with a free throw in the final minute.
Hamilton finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Junior Joslin Wainwright of Plainfield led all players with a career-high 22 points on 9-12 shooting. Senior center Tianna Sugars registered her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She moved into 12th on the all-time scoring list with 1053 points. Senior Kristen Donaghey chipped in with 11 points off the bench.
Plymouth State received a team best 21 points from Isabella Earle on 10-17 shooting in 28 minutes off the bench. Alessia Salzillo contributed 10 points and four steals.
Each team shot the ball better than 40% in the first quarter as they jockeyed for the lead. With the score tied at 10-10, Colby-Sawyer used a quick 5-0 spurt with a layup from Sugars and a trey from Hamilton to take a 5-point lead. The teams traded buckets before Earle closed the frame with a layup in the final seconds to pull Plymouth within 17-14.
The Panthers began the second with a 4-2 run but Colby-Sawyer held the Panthers at 18 points for more than eight minutes as the Chargers’ lead ballooned to 11. The Chargers took a 31-20 lead into the halftime break. Wainwright was 6-7 for 14 points to lead all scorers in the half.
Colby-Sawyer improves to 5-1. The Chargers will resume action on Dec. 4 at Salem State. Plymouth State falls to 3-3. The Panthers travel to New England College on Dec. 5.
