DRACUT, Mass. (AP) — Two brothers from New Hampshire have been charged with attacking a man in the parking lot of a Massachusetts pizza shop, yelling racial slurs, and telling the victim to “go back to Africa.”
Jeremy Stephenson, 36 of Plaistow, New Hampshire and James Stephenson, 39 of Salem, New Hampshire were both released on personal recognizance following their arraignments this week in connection with the alleged attack that occurred in late September, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Dracut police Chief Peter Bartlett said in a joint statement Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Dracut man was walking across the parking spot at the time the brothers were pulling in, authorities said. His name was not made public.
They punched the man, yelled racial slurs and pushed him through a plate glass window, officials said. The alleged victim used a shard of glass to stab Jeremy Stephenson in self-defense, they said.
The brothers have both been charged with constitutional rights violations, assault and other offenses.
They are due back in court Dec. 19.
It was not immediately clear who their attorneys are.
