Steven Yannuzzi is new Fire Chief in Newport

NEWPORT — Steven J. Yannuzzi has been hired as Newport’s new Fire Chief. His first day on the job was Monday, Dec. 2.

Yannuzzi comes to the Newport Fire-EMS Department with considerable experience as a professional in fire and safety services.

Among them he has been Deputy Chief of the Bellows Falls, Vt., Fire Department and Chief of the Bristol, N.H., Fire Department. Steve has also served Dartmouth- Hitchcock Medical Center as its Public Health Emergency Coordinator and as a member of DHART. 

In addition to Chief Yannuzzi’s professional credentials, he has also attained a Master’s Degree in Public Administration focusing on Crisis Management and Organizational Leadership from Norwich University and a Bachelor’s Degree from Granite State College.

His professional certifications include Firefighter 1&2, Fire Service Instructor, Advanced EMT and he has completed the training necessary to have earned his Executive Fire Officer Designation.

Yannuzzi currently resides with his family in Hill, N.H. As chief of the Newport Fire Department he will be required to live within a 20-minute response time to Newport.

David McCrillis had been serving as Interim Fire Chief since February following the retirement of former chief Wayne Conroy. Chris Marcotte is the Deputy Fire Chief.

The committee that voted unanimously to recommend Yannuzzi for the Newport job included McCrillis, Marcotte, Newport Police Chief Jim Burroughs, former longtime member of the Newport Fire Department David Jones and Steven Locke, fire chief of the Burlington, Vt., Fire Department.

“Chief Yannuzzi I­s well qualified for the job as Newport Fire Chief,” said Newport Trown Manager Hunter Rieseberg.
