John C. Montgomery, DDS LUDLOW, Vt. — John C. Montgomery, DDS, 76, passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, at Mount Ascutney Health Care in Windsor on Saturday evening, Nov. 30, 2019. John was born on Oct. 30, 1943, in Willimantic, Connecticut, the son of John and Elizabeth (Colburn) Montgomery. John graduated from UCONN and then from the University of Michigan with a degree in Dentistry. He then served in the U.S. Army Dental Corps at Fort Benning, Georgia, during Vietnam. In the late-1960s, he married Judith Gleason and they had two children, John (Allison) and Christopher (Bridget). In 1978, John married Isabel Kennedy and helped to raise her children, Aelis, Katherine and Sean. Together, John and Isabel added a son Michael (Lynette) to their family. John is also grandfather to Matthew and Rilon. Professionally, John spent two years practicing dentistry in Connecticut. In 1974, he moved to Ludlow, owning his own dental practice until his retirement in 2011. John was a master gardener and fondly spent time raising Christmas trees at his Northside Tree Farm in Chester, providing ample spirit selling trees to many families at Christmastime. John also enjoyed fishing, especially bass fishing all over New England, Yellowstone, the Florida Everglades, in South Carolina, the Gulf Coast and most of all, in Lake Champlain. John could be seen walking his two “Westies” every day. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, Dec. 12, 2019, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Annunciation in Ludlow. Friends may call on the family one hour prior to the Mass and a reception will be held in the Church Hall following the Mass. Those wishing may make memorial donations to the Alzheimer’s Association.
