Gloria L. Manno

CLAREMONT — Gloria L. Manno, 96, born in Somerville, New Jersey, lost to her long battle with Alzheimer’s on Dec. 4, 2019, at the Sullivan County Nursing Home, in her sleep. Child of Rose Tarantino and Anthony Masiello, Gloria moved from California to live here in Newport with daughter Liz Peck and husband Larry for three years before needing to go Sullivan County Nursing Home. She enjoyed the activities bowling, bingo, music and sometimes dancing, in the first couple years. Gloria worked at the Casco factory in Bridgeport, Connecticut, for many years before retiring and moving to California. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her kids and grandchildren. Gloria was preceded in death by her sons, James and Daniel Manno; as well as her daughter Paulette Wallander. Survivors include daughters, Gloria Jean Roberts of Texas, Liz Peck and husband Larry of Newport; grandsons in Connecticut, David Wallendar Jr., Michael Wallander, Tony Skojec; granddaughters, Donna Higgins, Michelle Norris and husband Timothy, Darlene McCarthy and husband Jeffery, Tina McCarthy, Daniele Shepard and husband Wendall; as well as 11 great-grandsons and seven great-granddaughters. Wait, we are not done: she also had eight great-great-grandchildren at the time of her passing. With Gloria so close to her whole family, some of her favorites would like to say a few words to remember what a great woman our Gloria was — Tina McCarthy says “Grandma was my home. A safe place to be yourself without judgement, someone who always had her door open for us and everything was right in my world by just her presence. I love her. I’m going to count my blessings and be thankful that I had her in my life.” Michelle Norris says, “Forever in our hearts & deeply missed.” David Wallander Jr. says, “I love you. She was always there for us growing up. She will be forever missed.” Gloria Jean would like to say “There are so many words to describe our mother. How do you explain about a woman who has been through so much in her life but still had all the love and patience for her children and grandchildren?” Liz Peck, “I can go on and on about my mom. She was such a strong woman, taught me that you can just get through anything as long as you don’t let it get to you. She had the biggest heart of anyone I knew. Will miss her forever. Love her to pieces.” The family of Gloria wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and doctors at the Sullivan County Nursing Home. We really appreciated the care and respect you gave to our beloved Gloria. Visiting hours will be held at Stringer Funeral Home, 146 Broad St. in Claremont, on Friday, Dec. 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. with a service at 6 p.m. Arrangements are with Stringer Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 146 Broad St., Claremont, NH 03743.
