SUNAPEE — Bring on the snow. The Sunapee Alpine racing teams are ready for some action on the slopes.
“This should be a fun year for Alpine Racing at Sunapee High School. We have a very big team that is diverse in talent,” said Coach Jack Iacopino.
Last year the Sunapee girls placed third at the State Meet and the boys placed fourth.
“Profile and LinWood are the teams to beat. They never rebuild, they just reload,” according to Iacopino.
Ellie Frederick and Silvia Dalton are set to have big years. They are both seniors and have been on several podiums during their tenure on the team. They also both qualified for the Meet of Champions last year.
Natalie Austin and Lyla Holobowicz also return and should score often for us, Iacopino said. Upcoming freshman Brie Hughlock has quite a bit of experience ski racing and should help the team as well, the coach stated.
On the boys side, senior Riley Balch who also qualified for the Meet of Champions last year, should be a top scorer along with Rupert Dalton who returns as a sophomore.
Other key returners will be Michael Mullen and Jackson Cooney who both are capable of Top 10 finishes. Upcoming freshmen John Roth and Jack Holobowicz both have been racing for some time and should have an impact for the team.
“We look forward to the upcoming season,” Iacopino stated.
