SUNAPEE — The Sunapee Laker girls tripped up Derryfield Tuesday night for their first victory of the season, 39-28.
The Lakers are on the road Friday, traveling to Newmarket.
Abby Pollari, a junior, paced the Sunapee offensive attack with 9 points against Derryfield followed by sophomore Vanessa Pollari and junior Kelsey Couitt with 8 points each.
Thanks to a 9-0 spurt, Sunapee’s lead at the end of three quarters was 37-19.
Other returning juniors on the Laker team are Fiona Nolan, Cari Peirce, Miah Hamm and Anah Durkee. Newcomers this season include freshmen Elizabeth Tschudin, Miranda Anderson, Sara Petrin and Mel Reed.
“We have a core group of returners that are looking to make their mark in Division IV,” said Sunapee Coach Stephanie Larpenter.
Now in her fourth year at the helm, Larpenter said there is a lot of quickness and speed within the Laker team. “We will look to use that to our advantage,” she added.
“The team is very determined and hard working and is in store for a very successful season,” Larpenter continued. Sunapee’s assistant coach is Faith Larpenter.
Including postseason, Sunapee posed a 10-8 record last season.
