THE DEMERS FAMILY
George and Anne Austin Demers celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary as a party given by their children at the Hotel Coolidge in White River Junction, Vermont. In an elegantly decorated room, the couple danced to “Could I Have This Dance for the Rest of My Life” by Anne Murray and enjoyed their beautifully recreated wedding cake complete with the topper from 1959. Displays included the wedding gown and wedding photos, plus a quilt with pictures from their travels around the United States. Their daughters arranged the decorations and a toast was given by their son, Jeffrey, honoring their commitment, kindness and generosity.
Family and friends from around New England joined them for the celebration, including the Matron on Honor, Carol Perry, the flower girl, Elaine Austin Crossman, and the groomsman, Andrew Austin.
George graduated from Windsor High School. He farmed for several years before starting his own carpentry business. He still does small jobs locally. He proudly built homes for all five of their children and is always willing to help others.
Anne graduated from Springfield High School. She enjoyed raising a family and working at the University Press of New England for over 30 years before retiring.
They built their own home in East Thetford and have lived there for 50 years proudly raising five children: Jeffrey Demers, Annmarie Lareau, Michelle Batchelder, Julie Demers and Candace Farewell. Watching their seven grandchildren mature has been a joy.
The couple has led a busy life traveling around the country, visiting all but three states and thoroughly enjoying their family. George has always been a generous, caring person. Anne is a homebody enjoying retirement and continuing her hobbies of writing, quilting, and making wooden Noah’s Ark sets.
