Anonymous $100,000 donation possible for N.H. Food Bank

MANCHESTER — An anonymous donor will make dollar-for-dollar donations to the New Hampshire Food Bank up to $100,000 through the end of 2019.

The donation provides the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities New Hampshire, with the opportunity to raise $200,000 and generate 400,000 meals in support of the one in nine New Hampshire residents who are food insecure, meaning they do not know where their next meal is coming from. The matching grant comes through the WMUR Spirit of Giving Food Drive.

This same anonymous donor has provided $475,000 to the New Hampshire Food Bank through matching donations over the past five years. With the New Hampshire Food Bank raising the match each year, these anonymous donations have helped raise $950,000, which equates to 1.9 million meals for the hungry.

The New Hampshire Food Bank can turn every dollar donated into approximately two nutritious meals. For more information and to donate, visit: www.nhfoodbank.org/spirit/.

“This donor has demonstrated remarkable generosity and we continue to be grateful and humbled by this support,” said Eileen Liponis, executive director, New Hampshire Food Bank.

“Many of the families we serve struggle at this time of year as they must choose between paying bills, buying food and making sure children have warm clothes—that makes the timing of this donation crucial. Contributions like this make it all the more possible for us to achieve our goal of eliminating hunger in New Hampshire. We encourage our supporters to contribute and be a part of the solution.”

During 2018, the New Hampshire Food Bank distributed more than 14 million pounds of food to its more than 425 partner agencies statewide. This year, because of the growing demand, the New Hampshire Food Bank expects to continue increasing food distribution.
