Newport sixth graders make holiday cards

NEWPORT — The sixth graders at Newport Middle School started their ‘Kick Off to Kindness’ December recently.

Stacey Burroughs and Coula Wood talked to the students about the definition of kindness, acts of kindness and the importance of spreading good deeds and thoughtfulness in our community.

The students began by making holiday cards for terminally ill children and children who are unable to be home for the holidays. We are sending these cards to C.H.A.D. and the Children’s Cancer Institute.

The sixth graders made holiday cards for local nursing homes and assisted living facilities, including Woodlawn Nursing Home and Summercrest, as well as cards for Veterans which are being delivered to Rolling Thunder, a local motorcycle organization.

The students put their heart and soul into these cards. There were pop out cards containing Christmas trees, snow, ornaments, Santa, sleighs, and even a pineapple for the holidays.
