BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — Vermont State Police reported that a five-car collision on Interstate 91 Wednesday did not result in any major injuries to anyone involved.

On Wednesday morning, state troopers from the Westminster Barracks responded to a crash on I-91 southbound, near mile marker 8/4. Though the car described the collision as a seven-vehicle crash, the investigation revealed that only five vehicles were involved.

Additionally, the investigation found that the incident comprised two separate crashes. The first crash involved a 2018 Honda Civic and a 2013 Volkswagon Passet. The second crash involved a 2020 Toyota Corolla, a 2008 Saab 93 and a commercial truck, a 2007 International L9327.

According to the police report, around 8 a.m., Bhavana Ventakaram, of Lebanon, driving a Honda Civic, slowed the vehicle due to a blinding glare of the sun. Sophia Peduzzi-Nelson of Northfield, Massachusetts, was driving the Volkswagen Passat behind Venkataram, and crashed into the Honda Civic’s rear. Peduzzi-Nelson claimed that she too was unable to see because of the glare.

The report said that the drivers of the Toyota Corolla and Saab both slowed their vehicles to avoid adding to the collision. But the commercial truck behind them, driven by Michel Gaulin from Quebec, Canada, was reportedly unable to see and rear-ended the Saab, which in turn rear-ended the Corolla.

The truck only sustained minor damage to the front, but the other four vehicles needed to be towed from the scene. The Saab and Volkswagen were totaled and the Honda and Corolla sustained severe rear damage.
