Fall mountain v Newport

Boys Basketball

Fall Mountain won its first game of the young season Thursday night defeating Newport 57-41 at the Wheeler Gym in Newport. The first quarter saw both teams struggle to find the basket with Fall Mountain leading 9 — 6 after one. Fall Mountain scored 20 points in the second half to go into the break leading 29 — 15. Newport came out in the third and got with in 4 points before Fall Mountain scored the last 6 points of the third period to lead by ten. The Wild Cats continued to score in the fourth period and ended up winning by 16 points. High scorer for Fall Mountain with 20 points was Tristan Spencer. High scorer for Newport with 9 points was Sean Moody. In the JV game Newport won 41-39.

Girls Basketball

The game started slowly with no score until 5 minutes in when Newport made the first point on a foul shot. From then on it was the Wildcats game taking every advantage of layups and outstanding rebounding ending the first quarter with a 17-6 FM lead. The 2nd quarter only increased Fall Mountain’s lead 37 -11. The third quarter increased FMs lead even further with Avery Stewart and Sophie Bardis both posting 6 points each to increase the 3rd quarter score to 60 to 26. Newport continued to press hard but FM’s defense and steal percentage held strong with FM winning score of 78-31. FM’s high scorers were Avery Stewart with 17 and Sophie Bardis with 16 points. FM girls will meet at Hillsboro-Deering on Friday at 6:30pm.
