KEENE — Gleora M. “Cleo” Payette, 79, of Lincoln Heights in Claremont, N.H., went home to be with the Lord on Monday (Dec. 30) at Cheshire Medical Center following a brief period of failing health.
She was born in Philipsburg, N.J., on June 29, 1940 the daughter of Harvey and Anna (Myers) Abbott. “Cleo” had been employed as a Licensed Nursing Assistant at the Sullivan County Nursing Home for 30 years and was employed as a homecare specialist for some time in Arkansas where the families that she served considered her an angel.
“Cleo” lived a life of service. She enjoyed cake decorating and made many wedding cakes and specialty cakes for family and friends. She also enjoyed crocheting, puzzle making and crossword puzzles and dancing.
Following the death of her husband, James Payette Sr., in 1991, she was a member of the Monadnock Singles Club.
Members of her family include two daughters, Ann Cougle, Orford, N.H.; Gleora Fisher, Goshen, NH; two step daughters, Freida Goins, Tennessee; and Crystal Hawkins, Claremont, N.H.; two stepsons, James Payette Jr., New Bloomfield, Pa., and Clarence Payette, Claremont, N.H.; 13 grandchildren ; several great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Dora Schaeffer, Ruffin, S.C., and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Pauline Cougle, a stepdaughter, Corrine Olsen, a stepson, George Payette, a granddaughter, Erica Anderson, a brother, Kenneth Abbott and a sister, Bertha DeNoyelles.
