Robert W. Markwell

BROWNSVILLE, Vt. — Robert W. “Winnie” Markwell, 89, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2019, at his home in Brownsville, after a long illness. Winnie was born in Keene, New Hampshire, son of Dermont and Donna (Geddes) Markwell. He attended Springfield High School. He was married to Lois Parker on Jan. 22, 1950. She predeceased him in 1994. He grew up in Reading at Lexington Farms. He became the manager after his parents retired, for 40 years. He then continued with his father’s farm, raising some beef cattle in Weathersfield for 30 years. He was a school bus driver for Weathersfield grade school for several years in the early-’90s. Winnie enjoyed being an outdoorsman, logging, firewood, sugaring, hunting, haying and gardening. He was especially passionate for hiking Mount Ascutney trails every year with his granddaughter Sierra, and they picked berries of all kinds together. His peace was spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his four children, daughter Bonnie, son Scott Markwell, daughter Robin and Jim Ellis of Brownsville and Carol Reynolds of Ascutney; also, many grandchildren. A celebration of his life will be held in the spring. A special thanks to BAYADA Hospice and especially to LNA Betty Martin, for all their support, kindness and care for Winnie.
