Tiger runners set school record

The Newport boys indoor track team had a record-setting weekend at the 51st Dartmouth Relays at the Leverone Fieldhouse.

The boys 4×200 meter relay team of Mason Martell, Jagger Lovely, Ryder Lovely and Darshawn Chesser placed 5th out of 25 teams with a school record time of 1:36.24. The Tigers were the smallest school in the event. Newport finished behind Pinkerton Academy, Bishop Hendricken from Rhode Island, Windham and Guilderland from New York. Charlestown Massachusetts rounded out the top six finishing behind the Tigers.

Martell also broke his own school record in the 55 meter hurdles in a time of 7.84. He finished in seventh place.

Jagger Lovely was 21st in the 55 meter dash in a time of 6.94, while Ryder Lovely was 42nd in 7.13 and Chesser 45th in 7.15.

Ryder Lovely also placed ninth in the 400 meter run in 54.99, while Jagger Lovely was 12th in the 300 meter run in 38.06.

The Dartmouth Relays are one of the most competitive and prestigious Indoor track and field events with high school teams from the New England states as well as Quebec and New York.

Windsor bowlers win again, move into the #1 spot in Vermont

After dropping the first game in the Bakers final to a very strong Brattleboro team, the Yellow Jackets grabbed a tight second game win before exploding for a big lead in the final string to grab their third match win in a row.

Windsor won both the individual and Bakers match on Saturday in Claremont to move into the #1 rank in Vermont.

With Windsor, Springfield, Brattleboro and White River all spending the morning at Maple Lanes, Windsor bowlers again showed their depth.

Rayce Gilbert 193/221, Grayson Frazer 202/227, Jacob Underhill 149/186, Samm Erskine 116/117, Patrick Kelley 135/127 and Wyatt Bean113/141 paced another Windsor win.

White River downed the Cosmos in the Bakers match for 3rd place.

Springfield individual results were: Bella Foster 160/143, Wesley Feickert 145/112, Richie Ryan 110/110, Austin Laplante 111/88, Thomas Czwakiel 83/119, Tanner Lawrence 77/95 and Tony Thibodeau 116/119.

Newport wrestlers have good day at Winnisquam

The Newport Tigers headed to the Winnisquam Winter Classic this weekend and walked away with lots or awards. Five of the Tigers found hardware and despite filling only 6 weight classes, Newport placed 6th as a team. At 106 pounds, Anson Ritondo placed first going 3-0 with 3 pins. Eric Wilkinson competed at 126 pounds going 4-1 en route to a 3rd place finish. At 145 pounds Mike Wilkinson captured four wins and took home 4th place. Josh Sharron bumped up from his normal 138 pound weight class all the way up to 152 pounds. He went 4-1 taking home 2nd place. Marius Edwards found himself in the finals for the first time at 160 pounds and took home the silver after going 3-1.
