Elaine A. Brousseau

HARTLAND FOUR CORNERS, Vt. — Elaine Anne Brousseau, 76, died unexpectedly Sunday, Jan, 5, 2020, at home in Hartland Four Corners. Elaine was born June 18, 1943, in Bellows Falls, the daughter of Howard and Anne (Hunka) Pearson. After graduating from Bellows Falls High School, she attended the Mary Hitchcock School of Nursing in Hanover, New Hampshire. While living in Hanover, Elaine met her husband of 51 years, Richard Brousseau, on a blind date. They lived in Windsor for several years before purchasing their home in Hartland Four Corners, where they raised their family and had lived for the past 45 years. She started her nursing career at Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital before joining the Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center in White River Junction. While she was working full time, Elaine earned her Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Castleton State College. After a 33-year career at the VA, where she had worked as a Critical Care Intensive Care nurse, nurse instructor and nurse supervisor, Elaine retired in 2009. Elaine was a Master Gardener, who enjoyed working in both her flower and vegetable gardens and sharing the bounty with her family and community. Her raspberries were a favorite of many. Elaine’s love of gardening continued in her role as the Windsor County coordinator for the UVM Extension Master Gardener Program. Elaine was a prolific sewer and knitter. She designed and made fleece blankets and coats for her grandsons with styles and patterns reflecting their interests, creating new ones or extending the sleeves as the boys grew. Elaine, a self-described “free spirit,” is survived by her husband Richard of Hartland Four Corners; a son Chris Brousseau with wife Marylou and children Zachary and Conrad of San Mateo, California; and a daughter Denise Jacobus with husband Kenneth and children Ryan and Caden of Wilton, New Hampshire. Elaine was predeceased by her brother Brian Pearson. A private family committal service will take place at the convenience of the family. Condolences to Elaine’s family may be made in an online guestbook at knightfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to First Congregational Church of Hartland where Elaine was a parishioner for many years: 10 Station Road, Hartland, VT 05048. www.hartlandcongregationalchurch.org/
