CROYDON — Russell Edwards, chairman of the Croydon Board of Selectmen, will be tested at the polls Tuesday by challenger Brenda Williams for a three-year term.
Edwards, 68, and retired, moved to Croydon from White River Junction in April of 2013, following a 27-year career at Hypertherm in Lebanon as an electronic technician working in manufacturing engineering.
He was appointed to the Croydon Board at the end of 2019.
“We need to go through the healing process in Croydon,” Edwards said. To that end he announced that the Croydon Selectmen would be meeting weekly from now on in order to open the communication lines with residents of the community.
He also noted there is a need to plan ahead instead of going day-to-day and not establishing goals.
“I still have a goal of volunteering on improving things in town,” he related.
“Croydon is a nice little town and deserves better attention in general from its elected officials,” Edwards stated.
Williams, a 61-year-old widow said she has held various jobs over the years including working in the home health care field for 35 years
She lived in Croydon in the 90’s before moving to Pittsburg, N.H., where she resided for 11 years before moving back to Croydon in 2010.
“I have lots of time to devote to selectboard business,” she said.
If elected, one of the first things she plans to attack is having job descriptions for employees of Croydon
“I want to listen to input any resident wants to give,” she stated. “This police thing was insane,” she said of the recent move by the Board of Selectmen to dissolve the Croydon Police Department.
