NEWPORT — The Cost of Utilities over the past three years was shared by Superintendent of Schools Brendan Minnihan at a meeting of Newport School Board on Thursday, Feb. 20.
The areas covered including Heating Fuel, Transportation Fuel, Electricity and Water and Sewer.
Only the Water and Sewer Budgets and Actual expenditures in each of the three years appeared to be more in range as indicated in the chart.
Of note is the Heating Fuel Budgets. In fiscal year 2017-18 the Budget was $164,398 while the Actual cost was $136,080. In 2018-19 the Budget called for expenses of $119,713 with the Actual ending at $193,794.
Even with the high Actual in 18-19 the budget in 19-20 called for a major reduction at $116,828 and the Actual is estimated to come in at $188,855 by Sept. 30 when the budget year for heating fuel ends.
Transportation costs in all three years came in over Budget by smaller increases.
Electricity was Budgeted at $121,000 in 17-18 and came in under Budget at $118,119. Then the split got bigger. In 18-19 the Budgeted amount was $98,034 and the Actual, $128,474. The difference is projected to be much higher in 19-20 with a Budget of $95,671 and the Actual estimated to reach $140,648 by June 30.
