Ludlow
A number of close, competitive races defined this year’s Town Meeting Day in Ludlow.
Town officials: Martin Nitka (town moderator), Ulla Cook (town clerk), Bruce Schmidt (three-year term selectperson), Scott Baitz (one-year term selectperson), Justin Hyjek (one-year term selectperson), Tomieka Macpherson (lister), Tyler Billings (first constable), Herbert Vanguilder (trustee of public funds), Rosemary Goings (trustee of public funds), Robert Brandt (cemetery commissioner), Dan Buckley (Ludlow Mount Holly Unified Union school director), Sebastian Frank (Ludlow Mount Holly Unified Union school director), Courtney McGuire (Ludlow Mount Holly Unified Union school director), and David Venter (Ludlow Mount Holly Unified Union school director).
Contested races results: Bruce Schmidt edged out Jay Jurkoic for a three-year term on the Ludlow Selectboard. Scott Baitz and Justin Hyjek edged out Christopher Garvey in a tight race for two one-year term selectboard seats. Tyler Billings edged out Don Nicoll for the one-year term first constable position. Martin Nitka, voted in as town moderator, was a write-in candidate.
Town and school articles: River Valley Technical Center Article I regarding the allocation of $2.98 million town budget was passed by a vote of 397 to 185. Ludlow Mount Holly Unified Union School District Article I regarding the allocation of $7.28 million school budget was passed by a vote of 413 to 179.
Presidential primary results: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders won the Democratic presidential primary in Ludlow with 45.8% of the vote. President Donald J. Trump won the Republican presidential primary in Ludlow with 91.35% of the vote.
Cavendish
Voters turned down a resolution for the defense of the right to keep and bear arms by a two-vote margin while all races for the Cavendish Selectboard were not contested.
Town officials: Michael J. Ripley (town moderator), Diane McNamara (town clerk and treasurer), Stephen Plunkard (one-year term selectperson), Sandra Russo (one-year term selectperson), George Timko (two-year term selectperson), Bob Glidden (three-year term selectperson), Peter LaBelle (auditor), Theresa McNamara (town grand juror), Kate Lamphere (Green Mountain Unified School District director).
Contested races results: No races in Cavendish were contested.
Town and school articles: The $1,576,820 town budget was passed. All other articles were also passed. The resolution to declare Cavendish a Second Amendment township did not pass by a vote of 33 to 31.
Presidential primary results: Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders won the Democratic presidential primary in Cavendish with 55.85% of the vote. President Donald J. Trump won the Republican presidential primary in Cavendish with 87.87% of the vote.
