Only one article fails at Sunapee meeting

SUNAPEE — Sunapee voters passed the 2020 town budget of $7,940,054 on a vote of 811-525 on Tuesday.

All articles on the ballot passed, including zoning articles, except Article 29 that was defeated, 673-649. That Article sought $27,000 to fund an engineering study of the Route 11 Parking and Pedestrian Improvements Project and to authorize the transfer of those funds from the unassigned fund balance.

Voters approved a request for $34,000 to make the current part-time Abbott Library Aid III position fulltime, moving from 34 hours per week to 40.

The Town will appropriate $16,000 from the unassigned fund balance to cover the cost of the engineering, design and permitting for extension of the town’s municipal water and were from the Abbott Library to the Highway Garage.

Only two positions were contested. Helene (Susi) Churchill, 691 votes and Suzanne Tether, 593 votes were elected to three-year openings. as Library Trustees. Planning Board positions went to Peter White, 733 votes, and Joseph Butler, 589 votes.
