NEWPORT — William Wilmot Jr. will not be seeking another three-year term on the Newport Board of Selectmen.
Wilmot joined the board in October of 2013 when Beverly Rodeschin resigned and he then won two full terms.
Barry Connell, also up for re-election in May, could not be reached for comment.
Wilmot’s son, Brent Wilmot of Claremont, recently was appointed Chief of Police for Newport upon the retirement of former chief Jim Burroughs.
“It as certainly fun to know the internal workings of town government.” Wilmot Jr. said. “I’m not going to miss the many weekends and going out many nights during the week or driving to Lebanon for a meeting,” he continued.
Wilmot was also a member of the Newport Recreation Advisory Committee.
“I’m looking forward to filling the void on some other committee. I want to continue to be supportive of the Newport community,” he related.
The filing period for town Offices will begin on Wednesday, March 25 and end on Friday, April 3. Forms will be available at the Town Clerk’s Office during normal business hours. That office will remain open until 5 p.m. on April 3, the final filing day, for candidate filings only.
Other positions that will be open include one Trustee of Trust Funds (3-year term); one Moderator (2-year term) one Supervisor of the Checklist (6-year term); one Town Clerk (3-year term) and one Town Treasurer (3-year term).
Town Clerk Liselle Dufort has also issued a reminder that all dog are due to be licensed by their owner/keeper by April 30. “We are processing licenses now,” she stated.
