BURLINGTON (AP) — Vermont’s largest school district has a new superintendent.
The Burlington School District announced Thursday that Tom Flanagan, currently the chief academic officer for the Providence Public Schools in Rhode Island, will take over for Yaw Obeng for the upcoming school year.
He was one of three finalists for the position.
“He brings years of experience in leading curriculum efforts and has years of experience in teaching and special education,” said Clare Wool, the chair of the Burlington school board. “He’s a facilitative leader and skilled communicator who builds authentic relationships with students, families, teachers and stakeholders.”
Prior to his four-year tenure in Providence, Flanagan worked in the Washington, D.C., public schools.
