NEWPORT — Newport and Guild dog owners may enter their canine fur babies in the Sixth Annual Newport Top Dog contest once they have been licensed with the town for the current year.
The contest began as a way to promote dog licensing that is required by state law. Assistant Town Clerk, Jennifer Souliotis took over the tasks associated with the contest during Season 2 and has stepped up the donation efforts to offer incredible prize packages for the first, second and third-place winners.
Prizes this year include items from food, toys and vet services to gift cards and dog grooming tools and much more. The estimated total dollars in prizes up for grabs is over $450.
Sponsors include Aubuchon Hardware, Bar Harbor Bank & Trust, Claremont Animal Hospital, EB2Gov/Interware Development Company Inc., LaValley Building Supply Inc., Pet & Aquarium Center, Pleasant Lake Veterinary Hospital, Runnings, Sanctuary Dairy, Shaws, Sugar River Animal Hospital, Sugar River Bank, Tractor Supply Company and Wendell Veterinary Clinic. Without their generosity over the years, this contest wouldn’t be possible.
The Newport Town Clerk’s office begins licensing dogs in January and the contest is open until April 30, 2020. The Top Dog along with second and third-place winners are drawn at random during the first Selectmen’s meeting in May.
