A Message to Our Community

A message from Eagle Times Printing and Publishing to our readers, advertisers and the greater Twin State Valley community:

As your local newspaper, it is our responsibility to bear witness to events in good faith and honor to effectively communicate accurate information on behalf of and for the benefit of those we serve. We do so to ensure an individual and collective ability to make informed decisions to better your lives and the lives of those around you. In the wake of a seemingly unprecedented influx of persistent information into the newsroom, we assure you that our staff is relaying up-to-date local, state, regional and national knowledge to the public while maintaining a shared, steady hand.

The Eagle Times has and continues to believe that it is just as important to call ourselves members of the community than journalists. We are part of the community, in good times and bad. As is happening at many local businesses and national chain stores, we too have experienced financial setbacks due to diminished revenue.

Hence, effective Monday, March 23, the Eagle Times will only publish a print edition on Saturdays. In place of a print edition, the Eagle Times will continue to produce local news six days a week available in the form of an electronic edition that will be available online to subscribers. Specific instructions on how to access the electronic edition have been posted at the top of our website (www.eagletimes.com). This reduction of print days is a temporary measure that is only planned for a two-week period at this time. The Eagle Times will resume its five-day print schedule when the pandemic subsides and revenue streams are revived.

I know we all have confidence in our nation’s ability to beat back this menace and we will do so by working together toward this common goal. We will continue to utilize the full power of our platform to bring you the latest cancellations, closures and updates on how local businesses and organizations are developing ways to continue to serve your needs that keep you and their employees safe during the pandemic.

Please know this was not an easy decision, this was one of the toughest decisions I have ever been a part of in my 40+ years in the newspaper business.

We are still here for you and welcome your input on how you as a medical provider or local business are adapting to survive this COVID-19 world. We remain committed to informing the public about the rapidly-changing coronavirus pandemic in the communities we serve. Coronavirus-related stories are free for all to read without a subscription on our website (www.eagletimes.com/covid_19/).

Thank you for your support of the Eagle Times and keeping local journalism alive. It is needed now more than ever.

Respectfully,

Mike Gonyaw, Publisher
