Frederick Leroy Igou, Jr. NEWPORT — Frederick Leroy Igou Jr., 72, died suddenly at home on March 26, 2020. He was born on Nov. 21, 1947, in Altoona, Pennsylvania. to the late Frederick and Miriam (McCahan) Igou. During hard times, the family decided to move to Niagara Falls, New York. Fred graduated high school and began working at Union Carbide. He married the love of his life, Betty Burnett. When Union Carbide closed, the pair decided to relocate to one of their favorite places, New England. Fred found work at Kearsarge Reel in Warner before working at Sturm Ruger until his retirement. Fred, ever the hard worker, came out of retirement and found joy in driving school buses for the town of Newport. Fred was a simple man who kept things short and sweet, despite his tall stature. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially if it involved hunting or fishing. He loved farming and tending to his animals. However, his most happiest moments involved supporting his children and grandchildren in all their endeavors. He tried his best to never miss a game or event. Becoming a great-grandfather filled him with immense pride. He will be sorely missed by all. Fred is predeceased by his parents. Surviving family includes his loving wife and best friend of 53 years, Betty Igou; daughters, Rebecca (Igou) Bass of Key West, Florida; and Wendy (Igou) West and her husband, Jay, of Newport, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Patrick Bass and his significant other, Pam; Lindsey Watt and her husband, Andrew; Zachery Bass and his significant other, Kaylee; and Jaycie West, and great-grandchildren, Carson and Cali Watt. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
