CLAREMONT — State and local fire officials have identified the resident who died after their cottage-style home caught fire late Tuesday night, the second fatal fire in the city within a five-week span.

Mia Follensbee, 29, of Claremont, died of carbon monoxide toxicity from smoke inhalation, according to a report issued by the medical examiner.

Members of the Claremont Fire Department responded to 28 Myrtle St., a cottage-style residence, for reports of a structure fire Tuesday night at 10:01 p.m. The department dispatched two engines to the scene, which described the scene as having a “heavy volume of fire emitting from the front bay window of the residence,” according to a press release issued by Fire Chief Bryan Burr.

The on-duty fire crew was able to contain the fire with a single attack handline by 10:22 p.m. Mutual aid was requested from Ascutney, Vt., Cornish and Newport Fire Departments.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by members of the Claremont Fire Department’s Investigation Team, Claremont Police Department and the New Hampshire State Fire Marshal’s office.

Chief Burr would like to remind all residents about the importance of having properly working smoke alarms installed in your home.
