Dalton E. West Jr.

Dalton E. West Jr. NEWPORT — Dalton E. West Jr., 58, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2020, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a long illness. He was born on Jan. 9, 1962, in Claremont, New Hampshire, to Dalton West Sr. and Florence (Simoneau) West. He grew up in Claremont and lived in the Newport/Claremont area his entire life. Dalton worked a variety of jobs, including Claremont Flock and Aspen Tree before starting his own business, DJ’s Tree Work and Landscaping. He owned and operated the business by himself before turning it over to his sons. Dalton was an incredible and talented tree climber with an amazing eye for landscape design. Dalton enjoyed old cars and working on vehicles. He liked riding his Harley and his ’39 coupe with his wife, Lynn. Dalton loved spending time with his kids and grandkids and with his beloved dog, Ayla. He had a love of the outdoors, going fishing, and the just loving life. He was predeceased by his stepson, Corey Bradford; in-laws, Rose Lyons and Herbie Hatts; and two dogs, Chipper and Knotez. Surviving family include his loving wife of seven years (together 14), “Marlene” Lynn West of Newport; sons, Jesse West and girlfriend Jennifer Richardson of Goshen, and Dalton West III of Newport; stepchildren, Kayla Pitre and husband Country of Central Square, New York, and Christopher Bradford of Newport; parents, Dalton West Sr. and Florence West; in-laws, Sandy Hatts of Cherryfield, Maine, and Newton Lyons Sr. of Southwick, Massachusetts; brother, Michael West and wife Vicki of Cornish; sisters, Gloria Gentes and husband Mark of Unity, Bonnie Newcomb and husband Lenny of Gassetts, Vermont, Debbie Howard of Florida, and Lena Williams and husband Dave of Wentworth, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Tanner, Leah, Alaina, Isaac, Raelynn, MaKenzie, Brittany and Clover; aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, other loving family members; and a whole lot of close friends. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
