Ruth A. Gardner NEWPORT — Ruth A. Gardner, 80, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2020, at Woodlawn Care Center in Newport, after a period of declining health. She was born on Nov. 8, 1939, in Leverett, Massachusetts, to the late Lester and Bessie (Whitemore) Glazier. She graduated from Towle High School with the class of 1957 and lived in North Newport most of her life. Ruth worked as a beautician in the Newport area for many years, at Bank East in Newport and at the Newport Senior Center. She attended the Croydon Church for many years and enjoyed singing in the choir. She liked to cook and loved family holiday gatherings. She would call her family on the first snowfall of the season. She liked to paint and take walks with her beloved dogs. Ruth was always family first. Her home always had an open door and she would greet you with a smile. She liked going camping with her family and spending time at the ocean. Her camp shorts will live on in infamy. She loved her grandchildren and would do anything to help her family. She enjoyed good food and good fun. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years in 2014, Wendell Gardner. Surviving family include her children, Wendell Gardner Jr. of Newport, Susan Bushway and husband Ron of Newport, Greg Gardner and wife Michele of Croydon; two brothers, Philip Glazier and wife Joyce, Norman Glazier and wife Elaine, sister Sue Baker and husband Stan, sister-in-law Joan LaFountaine; nine grandchildren, Lauren Bushway, Ryan Bushway, Glen Gardner, Jasmine Spear, Jordan Gardner, Dylan Gardner, Cody Gardner, Ethan Gardner and Nikki Gardner; great-grandchildren, Addison and Olivia Spear, Rosalie Johnson, Lillian Gardner; and many other extended family members. Calling hours will be held on Friday, June 19, 2020, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, New Hampshire. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, June 21, 2020, at noon at Faith River Church, 233 North Main St., Newport, New Hampshire. Burial will follow in North Newport Cemetery. Physical distancing and face coverings are encouraged and masks will be provided at the funeral home.
