Claremont Senior Center News: July 3, 2020

You know, there are times when as much as you try to do everything right sometimes it still isn’t enough. We are sure you all have been in the same situation. We at the Claremont Senior Center are going through that now. These are difficult times for all of us. So, as much as we want to do fundraisers right, it is out of the question. We value the safety of all people, especially our seniors. Please find below a letter from the Committee of the Claremont Senior Center Car Show:

“To our valued and dedicated Car Show volunteers, spectators and car show enthusiasts. Due to the coronavirus, the Claremont Senior Center Car Show Committee has unanimously voted to cancel the 9th Annual Car Show for 2020. The committee volunteers and staff are determined to double down and bring back a more amazing car show venue for 2021. We look forward to seeing all of you next year! Be safe and stay healthy.”

As the Car Show revamps for next year on Aug. 29, we find another fundraiser having to reschedule. The Gigantic Penny Sale committee has decided to postpone the event until May 21st. We are, however, still accepting your new or lightly used items. We look forward to seeing you next year in May.

As we continue to accommodate our seniors, we will be having a membership meeting on Tuesday, July 7. We will be distancing in the Owens Hall. Masks are strongly urged. Election will be held with the results announced before the meeting’s end. Please attend if you can. The board will be meeting on Monday, July 6, to discuss quite a few things. This important information will be presented at the membership meeting.

So far, we are open on Tuesdays from Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. for Game Night and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As always, masks are strongly urged. We will be discussing opening other days depending on the guidelines and the circumstances. We are taking this one safe step by one safe step.

Of course, the kitchen volunteers are still offering delicious take-outs. Here is the menu for Tuesday and Thursday:

Menu for the week:

Tuesday, July 7

Baked haddock, roasted potatoes, veggie and dessert.

Thursday, July 9

Mongolian chicken, rice, veggie and dessert.

Please call (603) 543-5998 by 10:30 a.m. and leave a message to reserve your meals. Members are $4, nonmembers are $5. Pick up from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Don’t miss all this fantastic, freshly prepared goodness.

We will be having an outside concert on Saturday, July 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The band will be the Firehouse Six. Social distancing will be observed. Masks are strongly urged and must be worn to order and pickup food. This concert is free and open to the public. Bring your chair and enjoy the great upbeat music.

We wish to thank Ed Small for framing the shield for the reception desk. He did a fantastic job. Thanks Ed!!

So, we have had our disappointments this week. As for the fundraisers, we researched the guidelines and ran through several scenarios. We finally concluded that we could not provide total safety of all working and attending the events. We know this situation will pass. Next year will be even better.

Please call your older family members and friends. And do not forget the grandchildren. It is so easy to feel alone and depressed. Your weekly call will offer a feeling of comfort that they are thought of and not alone.

Thought for the Week:

Take your time, play the long game. Embrace the difficulties though uncomfortable. Success will happen.

Laughter and lively conversation are always welcome.
