Richard James Morse Sr. ACWORTH — Richard James Morse Sr., 86, passed away Tuesday, July 14, 2020, in Acworth, New Hampshire, while surrounded by loved ones. Richard was born on June 5, 1934, in Woodstock, Vermont, to the late Ralph F. and Rachel E. (Johnson) Morse. At a young age, Richard joined the work force to help support his family. Upon turning 18, he felt a pull to serve his country and proudly enlisted in the Marine Corps. Using the skills he gained from the military, Richard acquired a job at Sikorsky Aircraft where he worked for the next 10 years, proudly representing part of the team that worked on JFK’s presidential aircraft. Afterwards, he went on to work at Mount Sunapee. Richard finally found his true passion as a self-employed builder and served most of the Lake Sunapee region. It was in Claremont, New Hampshire, where Richard met the love of his life, Lynda A. Wiggins. The two married June 29, 1957. The pair could often be found camping, fishing, traveling the United States in their camper, watching NASCAR, and cheering for their grandchildren at sporting events and school functions. Richard loved the outdoors; he could always be found snowmobiling in the winter, gardening in the summer and hunting and fishing whenever he possibly could. Richard could problem solve just about anything, truly displaying his Yankee ingenuity. Richard would always drop whatever he was doing in order to help a friend or neighbor in need. Most of all, Richard will be remembered for always having a pack of Pall Malls in his shirt pocket, his ability to tell stories, his love of telling jokes, and his words of wisdom and advice. Richard is survived by his daughter, Tina Brailsford and husband Jerry of Inverness, Florida; son, Richard Morse Jr. and wife Cheryl of Sunapee, New Hampshire; daughter, Suzanne Morse and husband William Willette Jr. of Acworth, New Hampshire; five granddaughters, Angie, Amy, Megan, Mandy and Cassidy; one grandson, Hunter; and four great-grandchildren, Maylee, Keyden, Fiona and Owen. He was predeceased by his daughter, Melissa Lynn Morse; and his beloved wife, Lynda Aline Morse. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2020, at 11 a.m. at the Lake Sunapee United Methodist Church. Burial will immediately follow in Eastman Cemetery in Sunapee, New Hampshire. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
