PROVIDED BY DAN BARILE
SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — Brian Lashway, of Charlestown, New Hampshire, was victorious this past weekend at the 10th Annual Southern Vermont Decathlon in Springfield.

Lashway had finished in the top three overall in eight out of nine years competing coming into this year’s edition before finally breaking through for his first win. While runner-up Shane Mas and third-place finisher Chris Beckelman helped push Lashway throughout the weekend, he went on to win seven of the 10 events and hold off Mas by almost 800 points.

Lashway was particularly impressive in the discus which he won by over 30 feet and the mile where he won by almost a minute.

Mas won the Keg Toss, Vortex Football Throw, Vertical Jump and placed in the top three in the first nine events to fuel his second place finish.

Beckelman earned silver in five events and bronze in three more, while Dan Barile claimed his only silver of the weekend in the final event (mile) to pass Brendan Rogers for fourth place.

Lashway concludes the first decade of the decathlon with 74 medals to put himself well ahead of the next most decorated medalists, Barile (43) and Will Franklin (39).
