Arlene Marie Osgood

Arlene Marie Osgood MERIDEN — Arlene Marie Osgood (born Hansen), age 71, passed away peacefully at her home in Meriden, New Hampshire, on Aug. 25, 2020, after a long, bravely fought battle with breast cancer. She was born on May 22, 1949, in Staten Island, New York, to Ragnar “Ray” and Manghild “May” Hansen. Arlene graduated from Northern Highlands High School in Allendale, New Jersey, and attended Keene State College for three years. She worked at Montgomery Ward’s for three years beginning in 1968, before leaving to stay at home to care for her children and provide babysitting for several families. Arlene re-entered the workforce as a library assistant at Kimball Union Academy. While working at KUA, she returned to school and earned her A.S. in Library Science. Eventually, she returned to what she truly loved, working with children. She was the school librarian for Maple Avenue School in Claremont and after a while, transitioned to the classroom as a para educator. While working at Maple Avenue School, she also worked part time for two years with the Community Alliance for Human Services, where she assisted elderly individuals with basic household tasks and errands. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Wallace “Wally” Osgood; her daughter, Candice Strickland (Ben Strickland); her sons, Jason Osgood, Jeremy Osgood (Kim Pittman) and Justin Osgood (Natalie Osgood); three grandchildren, Brian, Amy and Laura Strickland; sisters, Carol Akerstrom (Dave Akerstrom) and Lynn Kendall (Chris Kendall); and her brother, Paul Hansen. Due to the current restrictions of the pandemic, a Celebration of Life will be planned for her birthday on May 22, 2021. In lieu of flowers and in appreciation for the care and support Arlene received from Dr. Gary Schwartz and his team, the family asks that a donation be made in her honor to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center’s Breast Program (NCCC The Breast Program). Donations may be made online (https://dhmcalumdev.hitchcock.org/SSLPage.aspx?pid=2240 ) or sent to: D-H/Geisel Office of Development, One Medical Center Drive, HB 7070, Lebanon, NH 03756-0001.
