CLAREMONT — The Claremont Police Department says a suspect is still at large after committing a robbery at CVS Pharmacy on Thursday.

In a conversation with Police Chief Mark Chase, the robbery — which was caught on surveillance footage — took place around 1 p.m. when a man entered the store, located at 1 Wall St., and demanded money from the register. The employees cooperated and the suspect left with “an undisclosed amount of money.”

Additional information about the individual at large was withheld due to concerns over the potential sensitivity and possible interference with the ongoing investigation. No arrests have been made.

Although it cannot be known for sure at this time, Chase said it is possible that the robbery could have been prompted in some way by the high law enforcement presence at the corner of North Street and Chellis Street the same day.

“There is no doubt that emergency services were tapped out that morning,” Chase said, “but whether that was this person’s intent or it was because of that remains to be seen.”

Police say it appears that the suspect acted alone.
