Here is a recap of area sports games since Wednesday:
Lebanon grabs double header from Stevens in soccer action
Angelina LaClair netted the first Cardinal goal on a penalty kick to cut the Raiders’ lead to 2-1 at the break. Later in the contest it was Kiley Bunday’s goal from assists off the feet of Molly Derosier and Stella Lavertue for the final 4-2 score.
In the boys soccer game trailing 2-0 late in the first half, a goal from Lucas Belisle gave the hometown crowd something to cheer about. But it was all Lebanon in the final 40 minutes as they took the bus ride north along with a 5-1 win.
Windsor boys soccer beats Springfield, 3-0
Despite being down 1-0 at halftime, Windsor went on to score three unanswered in the second half to seal the victory.
“We weren’t playing our best in the first half but we made some adjustments at halftime and the boys really stepped up in the second half,” said Yellow Jacket head coach Steve Mulloy. “They made a lot of smart plays and we were able to get the goals we needed to secure the win.”
Goals for Windsor were from Evan Strobl, Jonathan Dexter, and Adam Dufour. Jacob Singelais had five saves in goal.
Jared Pugh had the goal for the Cosmos.
Yellow Jackets sting Woodstock, 3-0
The Yellow Jackets scored less than five minutes into the first corner on a goal from Karen Kapacinski assisted by Hannah Wood and never looked back.
In the second quarter Alyssa Slocum scored with two seconds left unassisted while Peyton Richardson finished the day with the third goal unassisted. Glenna Ricard from Windsor recorded eight saves in net while the Wasps’ Audrey Emery records 11 on the day.
Windsor hosts Rutland Saturday morning at 10 a.m. with JV playing after at 11:15 a.m.
Windsor cross country results
Windsor welcomed Mid-Vermont, Brattleboro, and Leland & Gray to Wednesday’s race.
Individual honors were swept by a pair of MVCS runners Joel Roberts and Rachel Horner-Richardson.
Team victories went to Brattleboro for both high school boys and girls as they were the only team with enough runners to score as a team.
Windsor’s top runners were Skylar Thibodeau, Liam Attwood, and Hudson Ranney (winner of the MS race).
Green Mountain girls soccer defeat Bellows Falls, 6-0
Green Mountain followed up three goals scored in the first half by Chloe Ayer, Kim Cummings, and Grace Tyrrel with another three in the second half scored by Chloe Ayer, Kim Cummings, and Riley Paul.
Mount Royal Academy gives Sunapee fits before bowing 2-0
Sunapee struggled all game against a packed in Mount Royal defense.
“To be honest we were lucky to score the first goal. It was a ricochet deal … off a direct kick,” said Sunapee head coach Myles Cooney.
Vanessa Pollari assisted on Abby Pollari’s goal that hit a defender and found the back of the net.
Almost the entire game was played in Mount Royal’s end with Laker keeper Miah Hamm registering one save on the night. Sunapee took plenty of shots but only 10 found the frame and two found the back of the net as Sophie Bourque scored on a loose ball delivered by Izzy Correa in the final minutes of the second half.
“We can’t panic, it wasn’t our best night, but most teams don’t commit to playing defense with those kinds of numbers. We are a little short in numbers this weekend and the bottom line is the kids got the job done.
The Lakers will be right back at it tomorrow when they host Newport at 2:30 p.m.
