CONCORD (AP) — No homicide charges will be brought against a Bristol man who admitted he shot his father to death, but said he did so in self defense, the New Hampshire attorney general’s office announced Monday.
The investigation into the March 29, 2019, shooting death of 52-year-old Steven Hall by his son, also named Steven Hall, 24, concluded there was insufficient to disprove the self-defense claim.
“As such, no homicide charges will be brought against Hall,” the report said.
The investigation found that the younger Hall called 911 on the day of the shooting to report he’d shot his father. He told police he’d fired the shots after the elder Hall approached him with a knife.
The younger Hall said he fired multiple times with a black-powder pistol that was near the bed where he was sitting.
Prior to the shooting, the younger Hall was on the phone with his girlfriend, who heard the exchanges before the shots were fired, corroborating his account.
