SUNAPEE — The Lakers entertained Newport on Saturday for a double header and continued their winning ways grabbing wins in both games. The Sunapee soccer program is one of the best in the state while Newport is determined to keep improving and hasn’t backed down to anyone.
Boys actionThe Lakers took control of the game right off the bat. Senior Parker Reed and Freshman Sam Kress each scored two goals in the first half. Additional goals were scored by Austin Tschudin, Rupert Dalton, Andrew Claus and Eric Nageroni. Matthew Tschudin and Drew Nichols served up two assists each while Austin Tschudin, Parker Reed and Sam Kress also had assists.
The Sunapee defense let up only three shots and Goal Keeper Jake Galloway had a remarkable save in the second half during the 8-0 Laker win.
The Lakers will match up in home and away games with Stevens next week Wednesday and Friday.
Girls actionSunapee scored seven goals and returned to form against Newport Saturday afternoon in a 7-0 victory. The attack was led by Abigail Pollari’s three goals, Natalie Austin tallied one, Sophia Varian scored twice, and Sophie Bourque added a goal of her own.
“Our whole demeanor towards the game was improved today, our pace, our spacing, and our effort,” said Sunapee head coach Myles Cooney. “Newport’s transition and speed gave us some trouble, and we were able to sort it out and make better defensive decisions; so it was nice to win and be able to work on some things that needed to be addressed.”
Sunapee returns to action Wednesday at Stevens.
