In this election everything is on the line, and Granite Staters have the chance to re-elect a true champion for New Hampshire, Sen. Jeanne Shaheen. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community I’m proud to support Sen. tor Shaheen. Since her time as Governor of New Hampshire, and now as U.S. senator, she has been a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Corky Messner, her Republican opponent, would wholeheartedly support the Trump administration’s attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, and would jeopardize the livelihood of LGBTQ+ Granite Staters.
Sen. Shaheen has long been an ally to the LGBTQ+ community. As governor, Sen. Shaheen signed legislation banning discrimination based on sexual orientation and repealed a state law banning same-sex adoption. In the Senate, Sen. Shaheen introduced legislation to ensure equal rights for same-sex spouses of veterans before marriage equality became the law of the land. She supported the repeal of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, and co-sponsored the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination against LGBTQ+ Americans. More recently, as a senior member of the Armed Services Committee, Sen. Shaheen fought President Trump’s transgender military ban.
By contrast, Corky Messner has repeatedly made anti-transgender comments on the campaign trail, calling the fight for transgender rights “horrific” adding that trans folks service in the military could create a distraction.
This November, it is so important that LGBTQ+ Granite Staters vote to protect the liberties we have fought so hard for in the first place. This November it is imperative we send Jeanne Shaheen back to the United States Senate.
