CLAREMONT — Stevens High School and Newport will face off on on Friday, Oct. 23, in a prelim game in Division 3 field hockey tournament play. The New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association (NHIAA) released the brackets late on Tuesday and they have decided on a regional tournament for the opening round consisting of four regions in Division 3.

Newport and Stevens have not faced each other this year, yet but have a date this Thursday in Claremont and again in the Sunshine town on Saturday at 4 p.m.

The NHIAA field hockey tournament committee based their decision on direct feedback. Each group makeup was decided upon from their proximity to one another and team records were not considered for seeding rather the proximity to one another in the group was the presiding factor. It was also recommended by the NHIAA that each student athlete for both the home and away team be given two tickets per game.

Region 2 will consist of #2 Stevens vs #3 Newport and #3 Kearsarge vs #1 Mascoma. Stevens and Mascoma will host those games with the winners squaring off on Sunday, Oct. 25, with the higher seed hosting the game. The winner of Region 2 will head to the semi-finals.

Region 1: Franklin, Laconia, Winnisquam, Gilford and St. Thomas

Region 2: Mascoma, Stevens, Newport and Kearsarge

Region 3: Conant, Monadnock, Bishop Brady, Hopkinton and Mascenic

Region 4: Littleton, Berlin, White Mountains and Newfound

The semi-finals and finals will be seeded by a blind draw and it appears that the hosting region will host that game. Semi-final action will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 28, with the championship game being held on Sunday, Nov. 1.
