Windsor turns the Page for 3-1 win

WESTMINSTER, Vt. — Bellows Falls coach John Broadley had a simple plan Tuesday: try and snub Elliot Rupp. The Windsor sharpshooter has ravaged oppositions all year as she has racked up goal after goal.

Bellows Falls’ game plan was to limit the Windsor offense with a back line of Maggie Parker, Sydney Bazin and a firecracker of a defender Abigail Broadley who’s only assignment was to guard Rupp. Everywhere Rupp went, Broadley was sure to follow as BF frustrated the Yellow Jackets attacking style of play.

“Today was a game where we had a very tough BF team dictate play and we needed to change our style a bit,” said Windsor head coach Jeff Backey.

With chunks of play being driven by both teams midfielders, It was Evelyn Page that put Windsor on the score board with a punky shot that slipped into the goal area and clanged off the far post and crossed the line for a 1-0 lead into the break.

“I just wanted to get it into the mix of players in the goal area and fortunately it found the back of the net, we did what we had to today,” said Page after the game.

The Terriers Emma Graham never stopped sliding across the Windsor defensive line looking for a break but her attempts were gobbled up by Windsor’s Adi Prior to keep the Bellows Falls side of the scoreboard clean as the Terriers couldn’t maintain pressure for any length of time. The Yellow Jackets couldn’t seem to find any ruthym either especially with the speed of Bazin from her left back position who closed on the ball hard all game. With a shift in positioning Rupp, the center of the field opened more for Windsor that allowed Page a solid shot on Bellows Falls’ Corina Mitchell who made a great stop on the first shot but the rebound found space and Page didn’t miss the second time with a no doubter goal to put Windsor up 2-0 at the 18 minute mark.

“This is not a one dimensional team, we have a great group of players that can put the ball in the net and once a few things were tweaked, thing began to happen quickly,” Bachey said.

With Prior shifting to more a wing player the middle opened up and allowed A. Broadley to grab a quick rest on the bench. Bellows Falls is a team with no quit in them and when Graham sizzled a shot into the far upper corner, it was 2-1 with lots of time remaining. With A. Broadley getting gulp[s of fresh air on the bench, Rupp ran free and her left footed blast put Windsor up 3-1 and took the wind out of the BF sails as that’s how it ended.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our effort today, I think we accomplished 95% of what we wanted, even down 1-nil the game was going just the way we wanted,” said J. Broadley after the game.
