WINDSOR, Vt. — The seniors on the Yellow Jacket team started games as freshmen as they rebuilt a program under the leadership of head coach Jodi Wood.

“The seniors are the reason why we’re here today, they never gave up and persevered since their freshman year” Wood said.

That determination showed through as Windsor beat that same program that helped them survive only a short time ago.

On Friday, Hannah Wood started the show with a bang as she plowed in the first two goals and the Yellow Jackets were on their way leading 2-0 after the first period.

The Cosmos hod no intention of laying down and controlled play for chunks of time in the second period as Kaelie Peoples was ball hawking in the Windsor end but the Cosmos just one pass away from scoring opportunities as the defense of Windsor’s Perry Reese and Alyssa Slocum were very stingy as always.

As the Springfield opportunities slowly melted away, it was the Yellow Jackets who turned up the heat as Ashley Grela ended the half with 2 goals on her way to a hat-trick day.

“Our intensity picked up just before the half and it brought all the momentum our way,” said H. Wood as Windsor led 4-0 at the break.

The second half had a gritty Cosmos team inching closed to a goal but their gas tank began to run dry, there was just too much Windsor depth to keep up as the Yellow Jackets were in control peppering Anna Church with multiple solid rushes on net.

“That is a very talented team, they have so many weapons and are incredibly well coached, I tip my hat to them and wish them luck in the tournament, we played our hearts out today and and the pride I have in my team is beyond words,” said Springfield head coach Stephen Lawrence.

Not only were the Yellow Jackets clicking on offense, but Slocum wasn’t finished as she made a great play on an Springfield break away to preserve the shutout. Alexina Peckinpaugh, Meaghan Holling and Slocum would round out the scoring for Windsor.
