Cecile F. Riley NEWPORT — Cecile F. Riley, 91, of Highland Avenue passed away peacefully at her home, surrounded by family, on Oct. 23, 2020, after a courageous battle with cancer. Cecile was born in Hudson, New Hampshire, on Nov. 16, 1928, to the late J. Omer and Yvonne (Dionne) Lemay. She spent her early years in Hudson, attending St. Aloysius High School. Cecile worked for Sprague Electric for over 30 years, retiring as supervisor. She moved to Newport in 1986 and was manager at the Newport Thrift Shop for 14 years, as well as a volunteer. Cecile loved designing and hooking her own rugs. Cecile was predeceased by her parents; loving husband of more than 40 years, Girard J. Riley; son, Daniel P. Heroux; three brothers, Victor, Marcel and Gerard Lemay; and brothers-in-law, Henry Ducharme, Joe Gamache, Alfred Barton and Donald Guertin. Surviving family include her daughters, Denise Burns and husband Allan of Merrimack, New Hampshire, Madeleine Burns and husband Dennis of Hudson, New Hampshire, and Janet Dow and husband Leonard of Newport, New Hampshire; grandchildren, Keith Burns, Kimberly Hoagland and husband Daniel, Steven Burns, Jeffrey Burns and wife Donna, Gregg Burns and significant other Lisa Burns, and Allison Shepardson and husband Ray; great-grandchildren, Bridgette, Jacqueline, Zachary and Joshua Hoagland, Michael, Caitlyn, Mary, Aiden and Cameryn Burns, and Nicklaus and Morgan Shepardson; friend and first husband of 26 years, Paul Heroux; four sisters, Rita Barton of Hudson, New Hampshire, Gertrude Ducharme of Nashua, New Hampshire, Louise Guertin of Nashua, New Hampshire, and Simonne Gamache of Nashua, New Hampshire; and many extended family members. A special thank you to everyone at Lake Sunapee VNA and Hospice for their care and compassion and the priests and parishioners of St. Patrick Church for their support. A public walk-through and visitation will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2020, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home, 42 Main St., Newport, New Hampshire. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick Catholic Church with burial in St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery. Please wear a mask and respect social distancing guidelines.
