Old Bellows Falls building to be renovated into apartments

BELLOWS FALLS, Vt. (AP) — A blighted, 100-year-old building in the Vermont village of Bellows Falls is going to be renovated into 26 apartments.

The Bellows Falls Garage once held a number of businesses in the community.

The Windham Windsor Housing Trust will convert the building into a combination of studios, one and two-bedroom units. The project will include adding another floor to the structure.

The trust’s Peter Paggi says work on the $8.7 million project will begin later this month.

Paggi says the former Bellows Falls Garage is one of the few industrial concrete buildings in the state.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the building’s distinctive “waffle” ceiling, made out of poured concrete, will be restored and visible in the apartments,.

Paggi said the sign on the front of the building with its name in concrete will also be restored while the wood siding will be removed and returned to its original concrete facade.
