CHESTER, Vt. — The Green Mountain Girls Soccer Teams defeated Leland & Grey in Chester 5-1 in a play down game on Tuesday. The Chieftains pushed in four first-half goals and added another midway into the final period while Leland & Grey was limited to a single tally late in the game. When Hannah Robinson went down with an injury a few games ago, Green Mountain has been shifting players into that position with Mackenzie Martin stepping into that position today.

“I thought Mackenzie did a really good job for us today with her first go sat it,” said Green Mountain had coach Carolynn Hamilton. “We had pretty good control of the middle and the over the top balls helped us generate some offense today.”

Grace Tyrell got things rolling while Kim Cummings added a couple of first half goals around a Riley Paul score. Abby Williams would finish things for Green Mountain while Abbey Towle would notch the only Leland & Grey score. Martin added two assists on the day for Green Mountain.

“We’re playing our game the best as we have all year and our offense is really starting to figure out how to score,” Hamilton said. “Leland & Grey is a really good team and today we played probably our best game off the year today.”

With Wednesday’s win, the No. 5 seed Ladies Chieftains improve to 8- 4. and will head to play the No. 4 seeded Vergennes on Saturday. Leland & Grey ended the season at 3-7-0.
