Library Arts Center launches new program

In the spirit of a traditional community supported agriculture (CSA), the Library Arts Center is swapping out agriculture for artwork with its first ever community supported arts (CSA) program this winter. Instead of receiving crates filled with fresh produce, participants will receive monthly, locally-made art pieces in the mail.

“We have been working to think innovatively about our programming in order to keep serving our mission to build community through the arts, while supporting local artists safely during the pandemic,” said Executive Director Kate Luppold.

The CSA will support local artists while providing shareholders with a monthly art piece delivered to their doors January through May of next year. Each of the five artists involved are currently creating 4×4” originals of their work. These miniature pieces of original work will be mounted on wood display boards of the same size, making them ready to hang and will arrive at shareholders doors via USPS once a month.

“This is a way we can support some of our local artists in a time when many of their traditional means of selling art are temporarily on hold due to COVID-19, and who wouldn’t want to receive a beautiful piece of art in the mail monthly through the winter?” said Fran Huot, Library Arts Center marketing coordinator.

“This winter, even more than usual, it will be a treat to receive a monthly package of art. We could all use the beauty and inspiration,” Luppold said.

Participating artists include: Jennifer Stark of Newport, Patti Warren of Lebanon, Elizabeth Moore of Grantham, Abigail McCoy of Newport, and Kait Armstrong of Andover. Shares are on sale now until they are sold out, or Jan. 1.

“These are a great gift to yourself, but also make a wonderful holiday gift. The Arts Center will provide gift certificates to give to the recipient this holiday season to explain the CSA and what they will be receiving,” said Huot.

Shares are $75 each, and include all five small art pieces and shipping. Visit libraryartscenter.org for full details and to register.
