Edward Charles Shinn

Edward Charles Shinn SUNAPEE — Edward Charles Shinn, 80, of Sunapee, New Hampshire, and formerly of Marblehead, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Dec. 11, 2020, at the Jack Byrne Center for Palliative & Hospice Care in Lebanon, New Hampshire, after a brief illness. Ned was born in Lynn, Massachusetts, on July 8, 1940, to the late Edward Coffin Shinn and Merriam (Brandt) Shinn. After graduating from the Essex Agricultural School, he joined the Navy Seabees, travelling the world and honing his skills as photographer in Spain, Greece, New Zealand and Antarctica. Ned met Mary Ann “Mimsie” Bailey, also of Marblehead, Massachusetts, at the Shinn Family Farm. They were married in June 1966 and together until her death in July 1993. Ned owned and operated his family business, The Village Rug Co., retiring in 1994 to Sunapee, New Hampshire. He lived in Marblehead, Massachusetts, for over 50 years where he indulged his love of the ocean and of horses. Ned had horses his entire life and was well-known for his horsemanship, including frequent carriage and sleigh rides through Marblehead. An avid outdoorsman and gentleman farmer, he held a deep appreciation for nature and for animals which were often the subject of his abundant paintings. Ned was predeceased by his loving wife, Mimsie. He is survived by his two children, Emily Shinn Baillie of Clayton, North Carolina, and Sara Elizabeth Shinn of Boston, Massachusetts; his grandson, Ethan of East Hampstead, New Hampshire; his partner of 30 years, Grace Creighton of Sunapee, New Hampshire. Final arrangements will be private.
