Hartford man accused of embezzling from parent-teacher group

READING, Vt. (AP) — The former treasurer of a school’s parent-teacher organization is accused of embezzling from the group’s checking account, Vermont State Police said.

Wade Mullins, 37, of Hartford, was arrested on Monday on suspicion of embezzling from the Reading Elementary School group between 2014 and 2020.

A lawyer representing the organization contacted police about the missing funds. There’s evidence that at least $10,000 was misappropriated from the account, police said.

Mullins has been cited to appear in court next month. It was not immediately known if he is being represented by an attorney. There is no phone listing in his name.
